changeoftail requested some wintersoldier with a flower crown. (I was sitting there, like, what a cute request and then I thought about the flowers and had that idea and was like ABORT MISSION but it was too late and I ended up a little sad. ಥ⌣ಥ)
“Hey, You’re that Bucky guy, yeah?” Donny asked as he approached the younger guy, his eyes narrowed. He put out his hand for a shake, his expression softening. “Donny Donowitz.”
“I suppose you could say that.” Honestly, he was used to being called ‘Sergeant Barnes’ at this point, aside from when he was with Steve. When Steve was around, he was just BUCKY. It was almost foreign, hearing someone else say it, but he didn’t correct him either. Instead, he simply grabbed his hand, giving it a firm shake, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Bucky Barnes. It’s a pleasure, Donny.”
His fingers grasped at empty air, Bucky
was screaming his name, and he was falling down, down, down into the
depths of the snow. Except it wasn’t snow. What welcomed him at the
bottom of his descent was never ending blackness. Blackness that
stretched out its inky tendrils and grabbed him, covering his mouth,
and his eyes, and wrapped him up before he was yanked down.
And then he shot awake.
Heavy pants fell from his lips, and he
rubbed at his face before shaking his head. Dammit. It was always the
same. Fingers ran through his hair as he glanced over at Bucky,
chewing on his bottom lip. He was safe. He knew he was. It was
just..hard, adjusting to all this, he supposed.
And, hell, he probably wouldn’t be
going back to sleep now. He looked over at the clock, and it read
four in the morning. Making a face, he slowly rolled over so he could
watch Bucky sleep, a tiny smile appearing on his face. He always
looked so peaceful..and maybe he was a little jealous of that.
Nevertheless, it did help remind him that he was here. With Bucky.
And he was safe.
True, Bucky did appear to be at peace– ASLEEP, his body moving to adjust to the slight shift in weight on the bed, but in reality, he wasn’t at all. In fact, he was wide awake, despite the fact that he appeared to be asleep, thoughts of the past plaguing his mind, as well as what Hydra could’ve done to Steve during his time with them. The thoughts alone made him a cocktail of emotions, and dwelling on them obviously wouldn’t help.
Perhaps…perhaps Steve was just rolling over in his sleep, which would give Bucky the chance to watch him for a while. That might ease his mind.
Yet, when his eyes slowly opened to look next to him, he was met with Steve’s eyes fixed on him, and…was that a smile? Bucky’s brow slowly arched a bit, head tilting against the pillow slightly. He didn’t bother asking WHY he was up– it was always the same. Either he just couldn’t sleep..or he had nightmares.
Honestly…Steve Cap wasn’t sure what
had possessed him to say it. It had been such a random, overwhelming
need that the words had almost come out without him thinking. “You’re
the best thing I have.” It was true, too. There was no denying
that. They had been each others’ partners for quite some time now,
and Winter, well, his feelings for him were somewhat complicated, but
he knew that he was the best thing he had, the best thing he knew.
Though, as the words came out, he
almost instantly regretted it. He didn’t know how Winter would react,
and he stood there with bated breath, uncertainty flooding through
him. There was no telling with him sometimes. What was mere seconds
seemed to stretch on forever, and Cap let out a breath he didn’t know
he was holding when Winter finally answered him.
“..Yeah?”
Well, that wasn’t what he expected. He
blinked a few times before something that could almost be called a
smile appeared on his face. Truly, he could cherish these small
moments between them. The moments when it was just them and eyes
weren’t on them. When they were truly alone.
“That’s–uh, good, then. Great,”
he muttered after a few moments. “..Should probably let you get
back to that, then. Your training…” he said, trailing off a
bit awkwardly before stepping back a bit.
“No,” the words had left his lips fast and without any hesitation, eyes remaining locked on the blonde. Winter had no desire to continue his training– not now, anyway. So he simply turned, starting to walk toward Cap, purely due to the fact that he had started to step back a bit ( why put un-needed distance between them when they were alone? ).
“I’m done.”
He was always a man of few words ever since he had ‘ joined ‘ Hydra, never truly needing to go into detail whenever he spoke. He always managed to get what he needed to get across, and that was no different now. Or, at least, it SHOULDN’T be any different, but much to Winter’s dismay, whenever he was alone around Cap, he felt the need to elaborate whatever he was trying to say.
“I don’t…need, to train right now, regardless.” Not with you around. Not when we have a moment of freedom to ourselves. “Unless, you want to train with me.”
